How to look beautiful in your maternity photoshoot? I just wanted to touch this subject a bit. The main and most important advice as a Maternity Photographer I can give to any expecting mom – BE YOURSELF! If you don’t like any of the fancy maternity gowns – please do not force yourself to wear one for the session. If you do not wear a lot of makeup on a daily basis – please do not change your face just for the few hours with the photographer. Yes, I know it can be confusing. But trust me – looking back at the maternity photos you simply want to see yourself and most importantly – recognize yourself in them. The same applies to the location of your shoot – here on Long Island, we have so many places – ocean and local beaches are just one example. But if you don’t like the idea of shooting outdoor – than studio it is!
Pregnancy is such a special time of your life and for many women, (although you may not feel like it) you are at your most natural, feminine and beautiful self. And this is how I want you to feel during your maternity photography shoot.

Choose a photographer whose style most resonates with you. There are so many styles out there – Studio maternity? light? dark? Modern and simple or with vibrant colors? Boho chic? Belly boudoir? By choosing your photographer by style, you can be assured that you will get images you want. Do it for yourself.

Professional hair and makeup? Should you get one? It’s all up to you. I think having a little makeup goes a long way than no makeup at all, the same applies to hair. You will feel more confident during your session. The secret to looking good in photos is looking natural. If your makeup artist changes your face and your friends can’t recognize you, then… hmmm …. perhaps its time to say goodbyes to them. I work with 2 makeup artists here on Long Island and if you wish we can set up an appointment before your session to make you feel and look natural and beautiful.

Posing… yes.. some of my clients are very vocal about how awkward they photograph or how nervous they are. Let me tell you a little secret – no one shows up to their maternity session knowing how to pose. It’s my job to make you look good in photos. I will give you some directions and photograph only your most flattering angles.

Here are some of the many images taken during this mama’s maternity shoot. This session was fun, relaxed and we just talked about literally everything. I love the simplicity of it, the focus on the belly and how happy and radiant mama looks like.
